Up to 80 percent of decisions made in Brussels have a direct or indirect impact on the local level. It is therefore necessary for the municipal level to become actively involved in European legislation in order to ensure a European framework that is friendly to municipalities. This is a fundamental task for the European Office of the municipalities of Baden-Württemberg in Brussels. Thereby we see ourselves as a link between our supporting associations and their members in Baden-Württemberg and the European institutions in Brussels.
Among other things, we are actively involved in the topics of sustainability, mobility, digitization and EU funding policy in Brussels.
As representatives of municipal interests, we are active in Brussels on behalf of the common good. The European institutions have recognized this special status in an agreement between institutions in 2021.
We contribute our expertise to the European discussions with consultation contributions and position papers. In addition to discussions with employees of the European Commission, we also use these contributions for exchanges with members of the European Parliament or spread them further into municipal networks in Brussels.
